CRT display is used to display numbers, letters and graphics. There are two techniques followed for producing image on the CRT screen: Raster scan and Vector scan. The raster scan techniques is universally followed in the CRT displays used in the PCs. In raster scan technique, the horizontal and vertical deflection signal are generated to move retrace portion of the raster scan pattern is suppressed (blanked); this is achieved by reducing the intensity of the electron beam during retrace. The complete CRT screen can be considered to be made of dots or pixels (picture elements). Any dot can be illuminated by reducing the intensity of the electron beam.
